i mean, its random people writing whatever they want. there is a reason why your professors wont allow it as a reference...because its crap!
your opinion wikipedia rocks
I notice the "askesr" percentage of correct answers is only 2% at this time. Wikipedia is seems isn't the only one who is "wrong alot". [sic]
I think the idea of a collaborative Wiki is a fantastic idea, but with Wikipedia, somehow the idea has gone horribly wrong. It's difficult to read, I would hesitate to say this but I am quite sure not all the information is correct (or that it is confirmed in some way). I don't put much stock in it.
I believe that the most commonly cited reason is sheer laziness. Indeed, were it not for so many lazy high school and college students looking for a research short cut, Wikipedia might well have started its decline earlier. Related to this is the fact that so many people are in love with the concept of "one stop shopping". So in love with it, in fact, that they will tolerate full parking lots, large crowds, and long, slow lines at the check-out just to shop at a mega-store like Wal-Mart.
If so many people will put up with these inconveniences just to shop at Wal-Mart, it is not really surprising that so many people also think that Wikipedia is a great resource, despite its inanity, insanity and inaccuracies. It takes timwhy wikipedia suckse for people to realize that one stop shopping is not always worth the cost, and some people never seem to get this.
I don't think it's all doom and gloom, though. I see increasing signs that people are figuring out that "the emperor is nekkid!" These things take time.
The people who dump those mess act faster than those who clean it up. See a random article and more or less, you'll get a poor article.
For Wikipedia to improve, we need people like you to improve its contents.
If something points you in the right direction for your answer , then yes
it does not always have the answer but it helped in your search to find
it. So , it cannot be that bad after all. Nothing can possibly have all
the answers... i was researching some work in the Nurses Dictionary
when news of the drug Michael Jackson had been given came up on the TV ... i searched it and although i had been given every other info.all week by this Dictionary.... can you believe it when i tell you it
did not have the answer to this ? well i was p.....d so you can understand this happens to anyone.
I think wikipedia dosn't suck at all
you can write whatever you want on it. but it will be deleted right away if it is not accurate.
i've heard that proffesors check it right after they know you've changed or added something to the page
Thanks for pointing this out to us. But there are those of us who like Wikipedia.
And if you and your university snobs don't carewhy wikipedia sucks for it don't use it and don't bother to comment on it. Just leave it for us 'common folk".
The world is an imperfect place. And you are part of it.
Perhaps you have experienced that sometimes it gave wrong answers, but the last 6 years when I started using it, I never had a wrong and answer and I thought it was really fast updated because of the recent Micheal jackson incident, in 1 day they updated his death.
Encyclopedia brittanica and natgeo are also done by humans, same as wikipedia. Main difference is that wikipedia is done by way more people and experts, and it has a higher quality. Your teachers are dumb.
It's got more info than any other encyclopaedia. It's hardly ever wrong because you have to reference your sources for it or wikipedia delete your contribution.
I guess people know a good thing when they see it. Alter all, people all over the world pitched in and built it. Wikipedia gets better every day thanks to thousands of dedicated volunteers.
I use wikipedia for all my movie and music research. I trust it but if I were to find info on it that was wrong it would not surprise me. But then again for what I use it for it is not that big a deal.
It is a good place to start doing research. It itself is not a good reference but it can point you on the right direction to good references.
Because they think that it contains a lot of information.
