Didn't know if they are required to by a certain time or just put things out as they can or feel.
In many cases they are required by contract to not release a new CD or DVD until a specific date. The new releases are shipped before this date so the stores can get them into their inventory and gwalmart new releaseset the floor space arranged and such. But to keep the playing field level the stores are not allowed to offer them for sale to the public until a specific date. This prevents stores that get earlier shipments from taking advantage of those whose shipments don't get in for a few more days. Atwalmart new releases midnight the date changes and they can then sell the product. It's a limitation that they've learned to use as a sales gimmick.
Most Wal-Marts don't stay open all night, so the movie is not available when the close, but they are available when they open the next morning.
